Our Investor Nicolas von Blottnitz shares the top-seeded companies to keep an eye on this week.
We see about 5,000 startups each week, and I want to give you a glimpse into how we at Headline think about trending tech companies and tracking new investment opportunities. In this post, I’m highlighting top tech companies that have announced or raised a seed round within the past week.
Consumer rideshare app that allows groups to create group rides with up to 15 people
Lead Investors:Y Combinator
Total Raised:Undisclosed
Comparables:Uber, Lift
My Thoughts:Uber has pulled back its group ridesharing efforts which leaves this segment of the market under catered to. This might indicate that this is an incredibly difficult model to make work, but also means that it is a significant open opportunity in the on-demand transportation space.
Prisms
No external sources showing growth
Product:VR-enabled math education platform
Lead Investors:Andreessen Horowitz
Total Raised:$4.25M
Comparables:Class VR
My Thoughts:I am the first person who believes that having kids sit in a classroom to stare at flat pages can not be the optimal way to put knowledge in their heads. Physically interacting with math in a VR setting should enable kids to truly engage with the content which should probably enable better learning absorption.
Kickoff
Virtual one on one fitness classes
Lead Investors:645 Ventures
Total Raised:$7M
Comparables:Future, FlexFit
My Thoughts:There is a significant subset of the population that is happy to work out at home, as it saves them the very in-your-face gym culture and travel time, but having access to a personal trainer does make a huge difference. Bridging this gap is therefore definitely a market opportunity worth addressing. The EVA growth also indicates that there is real traction for Kickoff as well.
Zygg
No external sources showing growth
Product:Monthly e-bike as a service subscription
Lead Investors:Undisclosed
Total Raised:$5M
Comparables:Zoomo, ZapBike
My Thoughts:This model has taken off in Australia with Zoomo and I don’t see a reason why structurally this wouldn’t work in any other metropolitan area with good and/or seasonally good weather.
Mintlify
No external sources showing growth
Product:Integrated documentation solution that works directly out of an organization’s continuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment efforts
Lead Investors:Bain Capital Ventures
Total Raised:$3M
Comparables:Whatfix, Tettra
My Thoughts:Oooh how valuable or frustrating the lack of good documentation can be. If this works like it is promised, this is a must-have for any organization.
